The Dynamic duos are both excited “Our program starts in the midst of winter by re-rigging the boat after the previous year’s season. Will Smith the owner, designer and builder of Phantom Powerboats in America inspects the boat’s structure, making sure it is as he requires and any alterations and tweaks that may assist with furthering the boats performance is undertaken. By April the boat is back in the water ready for the rigid test program and in earnest for the first race of the season at the end of May” says Vee.
Gareth, alongside his Mother Gill Williams, is a Director of Drivers Dry Berthing Ltd a boatyard based in Southampton, Hampshire which boasts secure workshops, storage and craneage amenities. Many of the UK's Marathon offshore teams can be seen testing using the excellent facilities and is the reason why Vee now bases 'his passion for racing' housing his new workshop for the Phantom ‘Fury’ race team from this establishment. "I am very excited to be given the opportunity to race again with Vee as part of the Fury team in the Round Ireland Powerboat race," says Gareth. "I am looking forward to being back in a competitive boat in race conditions and expect this will be a very successful season for us." Vee and Gareth use the Solent waters for testing, using the Isle of Wight as a circuit to monitor fuel consumption and varied sea conditions, with their usual true grit and determination they’re sure to give 110% to succeed and at the same time it will be an excellent test bed to start the 2011 season.
